THE TECKENTRUP FLYER IS AT IT AGAIN! The industry is getting used to Jim Rodger’s exploits on two wheels - John o’Groats to Lands End in 2010, La Marmotte in 2012 - what next?? Jim’s now adding a couple of disciplines and will be competing in the Liverpool Triathlon event on July the 1st - Swim 1.5k, bike 40k and run 10k as a warm up to the Bolton Iron Man on July the 22nd. If you think the warm up seems like enough, the Bolton event is a 2.5-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride finished off with a full marathon to be completed in less than 17 hours! As with Jim’s previous adventures every penny raised goes to support Alder Hey Hospital and the astonishing wo rk they do with sick children. Emily Atkins was the inspiration for Jim’s first ride and it is with great delight we can report that, with help from Alder Hey, Emily is now back at home and doing well. To follow Jim visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Teckentrup-Depot/246915448670454?sk=wall for his usual pithy account of the lead up to, and the event itself - you’ll find a link to add your sponsorship. The picture is not of Jim in his younger years but of his son Matthew (the likeness is unmistakable!) - T1 Wirral 9-10 year old triathlon winner on February 6th this year. Jim has a lot to live up to with a triathlon star already in the family! 9 A ‘GOLD WATCH’ COMPANY Doorfit Products Ltd was established in 1953 by John & George Neil and is still today a family run business. Specialising in the supply of ironmongery, garage doors and sliding door gear, Doorfit has built up and maintained a position of strength within the West Midlands. Key to its success is the 55 dedicated staff who between them has a wealth of experience which is unrivalled within the industry. ‘Gold Watch’ employees To prove a point, each employee receives a gold watch when they reach 25 years service with the company. This year a total of 3 watches will be handed out to its long serving employees. The company has 9 other ‘gold watch’ members currently in its employment as well as many whom have now retired. Remarkably one member of staff, Alan George, was recently awarded with a special watch to commemorate 50 years with the company and he’s still going strong. In our modern Internet driven society we sometimes need advice and assistance that just can’t be obtained via a search engine. Whilst Doorfit have embraced all of the available technology, they have never lost sight of the reassuring fact that you can’t replace experience, a fact I am sure the local watch company also welcome. Looking forward to 2013, Doorfit Products will be celebrating in a big way themselves, as the company will be marking its 60th anniversary. More details of this milestone celebration will be published in our summer and winter issues and on our Blog.
