HELP ON HAND FROM DHF FOR INDUSTRIAL DOOR COMPANIES WANTING TO MEET THE CE MARKING CHALLENGE With compulsory CE marking just weeks away, the Door & Hardware Federation is providing vital guidance to industrial door companies who are anxious to meet their legal obligations. Members of the DHF have access to a host of technical guides and expert advice to help them meet the CE marking deadline of July 1 this year. The federation is also hosting a programme of roadshows which provide practical help to door companies. The first of these, held recently at BRE in Watford, was a huge success, attracting seventy delegates including DHF members and non member door companies. A comprehensive “how to” guide on CE marking was presented. Delegates also learned how to gain commercial advantage from CE marking and learned about the role played by test labs and certification bodies such as BRE. The presenters included Bob Perry, DHF executive chairman; Michael Skelding, DHF secretary and general manager; and Ian Stewart, BRE’s passive installer scheme manager. There was a lively question and answer session prompted by the important issues raised by the presenters. After lunch, delegates were given a tour of BRE’s testing facilities. Before a door company can CE mark its products, it must undergo testing in accordance with BS EN 13241-1:2003, implement a factory production control system, and issue Declarations of Performance. DHF member companies are well advanced in putting these procedures into place to ensure compliance with the law from July 1. However, many non member door companies have yet to start the CE marking process. The DHF is holding another CE marking roadshow, to be held in Manchester. It will take place at the De Vere Village Hotel, Warrington on Tuesday 9 April 2013. Starting at 10.30 am, the event includes practical help on CE marking, how to gain commercial advantage from CE marking, and the role played by test labs and certification bodies. There will be ample opportunity during the meeting for any questions. The roadshow will end with a sandwich lunch at around 1 pm. Failure to do so will be a criminal offence from July 1 this year.
