As a result, house sizes are becoming increasingly smaller, as land becomes limited and developers are keen to find ways to maximise space. One possible solution? According to Jamie Johnson, product manager at IronmongeryDirect, pocket door systems are the perfect answer to get ahead in the space race. Popular in the 1950s, these systems are making a comeback into our homes, bringing with them newer, more modern designs and many space-saving advantages. Sometimes referred to as ‘concealed sliding doors’, pocket door systems can be fitted with ease into any doorway around the home and are ideal for newer properties that may have little or limited storage or space. The system is made up of a steel frame and overhead track that allows the door to slide along effortlessly into the wall. Unlike traditional hinged doors, pocket door systems do not require additional space to be opened and can help to save up to eight percent more space within a room. This makes them perfect for areas that are in desperate need of the extra space such as closets or en-suite bathrooms. The Klug Ultra Pocket Door Kit, for example, works really well in areas like these because the single door structure is a great replacement for the traditional hinge door that may be space-restrictive. The door kit includes a universal header, jamb posts, rubber bumper, door guides, screws and nails. It’s quick and easy to assemble and install, and the quick release hangers allow easy removal of the door when needed.
