The installation company only has to install a set of photoeyes that come with the kit in advance of the set-up. The customer does the rest. Each phone / device effectively in the home has the potential to become a handset and you can set up additional people with whom you give permission to. The Payback The other real benefits I experienced: 1. I never carry the garage remote on my person or in the car. I always have my phone. Whenever I come home in the evenings and the recycling bins are out, I open the garage and put them in. 2. At Christmas I found myself ordering more presents online via Amazon. On the day’s that no one was at home I requested the delivery company to call me when they arrived. Once I knew they were at my home I opened the door remotely and they put the delivery securely within my garage. I closed again when they left. 3. LiftMaster has also teamed up with Nest devices, which are MYQ compatible. I purchased a Nest camera from Amazon for £160 and set this up with my opener. Whenever my door opens I can view who is entering my garage. As well as a security feature, this also provides more confidence and flexibility when allowing 3rd party access such as the example above. 4. I hide a spare key for my home in my garage. If I ever forget my keys on a night out I can now get into the garage via my phone without waking the house up. I now use my garage door much, much more and I find the remote access features really useful. I can see the cost saving benefit if there are multiple users vs. purchasing additional hand transmitters.....and of course I’m now in the good books with her indoors by keeping on top of the recycling. MYQ is not going to bring about world peace, however as the world moves more towards complete home automation and the growing fascination and change towards all things accessible and controllable by our smartphones and devices, at least with our partners, LiftMaster the team at GDS and our customers are at the innovative cutting edge. …And if that helps me do my recycling easier or ensures I can get the kids presents delivered at Christmas while at work, or slipping into the house after a few beers and forgetting my keys then I’m all for it.
