Secured by Design is the official flagship initiative from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), which supports the principle of ‘designing out crime’ through security-focused products. Alluguard has now been awarded SBD accreditation three years running, in recognition of the security of its products, and all Alluguard doors carry the SBD and ‘Police Preferred Specification’ logos. SBD-accredited products have to undergo rigorous independent testing that measures them against published technical standards to ensure they are made to the highest specification in terms of security and their ability to withstand criminal attack. Statistics show that housing developments that use SBD products and processes are half as likely to be burgled, have two times less vehicle crime and show a reduction of 25% in criminal damage. ‘Before and after’ studies on two housing estates showed that crime rates dropped by around 35% and 40% after the introduction of SBD principles. In addition, Alluguard – for the second year in succession - has been awarded ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System status. This means that both the company and its products meet all the quality management standards required by the Swiss-based International Organization for Standardization. Duck egg blue is a soft and delicate shade that’s a favourite in the home décor market and is available in DIY shops across the country. As Alluguard MD Gary Brooks explains, this increasing popularity with consumers is behind the firm’s decision to offer it as a colour choice: “We are including duck egg blue as many of our installers have been asking about it,” he says. “You see it both inside and outside a lot of homes these days, meaning there is plenty of consumers out there eager to buy a door in this colour.
