The construction industry has a significant impact has upon the environment, accounting for 40% of the energy used, and this doesn’t even take into account the impact manufacturing has upon the process 1 . As quality sources are exploited, availability is decreasing, and this can be seen in the global demand for engineering materials having quadrupled in the past 50 years 2 .
