LiftMaster has been in the connected home space for a few years now, since you introduced MyQ technology. What is LiftMaster’s history of innovating in IoT? “The Chamberlain Group, owner of the LiftMaster and Chamberlain brand, has been the top garage door opener manufacturer for more than 40 years. “In 2012, we launched our MyQ technology when we saw an opportunity to bring added security, convenience, and control to consumers by connecting their smart phones to the garage door. The ability to open, close, and monitor the garage door from anywhere in the world, and receive alerts of door activity, is a great benefit to consumers. “MyQ technology is now built into our Evolution range of garage door openers and it is a product line we are actively expanding through leading IoT partner ecosystems. As an example, MyQ is compatible with Nest Camera, a discrete security camera that broadcasts live images from the garage, 24 hours a day, to the user s smartphone in order to bring added safety, security and peace of mind”. There has been a lot of talk about security and the smart home. How has LiftMaster been thinking about issues of security, and how secure is LiftMaster’s MyQ technology? “LiftMaster’s brand and reputation are built on a heritage of delivering safe and secure products to consumers. Since our MyQ technology controls the main entry point to the home for many people, we take safety and security very seriously. It’s absolutely our number one priority. “Our security processes include using industry-leading encryption technology that is also implemented by the financial and healthcare industries. Additionally, our Evolution garage door openers are equipped with the best radio technology that we have ever produced, which provides bi-directional radio allowing the opener to receive and send radio signals, that can handle both 433 MHz and 868 MHz frequency transmitters. “LiftMaster also applies the latest security techniques, implements continuous security updates, and conducts periodic security testing with reputable third-party security firms”.
