THE door industry journal spring 2017 45 Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk garage doors ALUTECH SECTIONAL DOORS - THROUGH THE EYES OF A VERY ‘SCEPTICAL’ GARAGE DOOR SPECIALIST Whilst I have been for many years an installer, surveyor and what we would class in the industry, a “garage door specialist”. I have been involved with many of the leading brands of sectional garage doors and automation systems. Then came along the Alutech Trend sectional door range & Avanti automation system. I thought to myself, do we really require another range of sectional doors in the market place and what is so different about the Alutech Trend that separates it from the rest? With me being a sceptic, I had my doubts. That aside, I would always provide the opportunity for somebody to prove me wrong and demonstrate the features & benefits of a new product. Upon being invited to view and inspect an Alutech Trend side sprung and a torsion sprung door, with both doors operated by an Avanti automation system, I have only one word, “impressive”. Upon inspection, I noticed several features that definitely separated the Alutech and Avanti from the rest. A door frame set that as standard, is finished in smooth white and colour matched if needed, cover profiles not required, now that would be an advantage, my installers will love that - time saved. With one door finished in smooth anthracite grey and the other in woodgrain white, I can honestly say the paint, texture and finish is superb. Roller wheels with ball raced bearings with a captive roller spindle with ample tolerance within the roller bracket - so much better. The bottom panel rubber seal fitted with adjustable end bumpers for those troublesome floor levels - I thought, now that’s a neat trick. A hanging system with the horizontal tracks punched at 50mm centres with spacers provided for the hanging strap if locating the fixing point becomes a problem - simple but clever. Moulded spring covers for the side sprung range - fitted in seconds. Fantastic I thought, now why has nobody thought of that before, such a simplistic idea, but very effective and aesthetically pleasing. The first thing I noticed whilst the demonstration of the Avanti automation took place, was how quick to assemble, install and engage the door. Then came the learn sequence, one press of the hand transmitter, as they are pre-programmed, and the Avanti goes through its teaching sequence. I thought, my installers will absolutely love this, so easy, installation friendly and powerful. But the best was yet to come. When you have those troublesome floor levels and you are struggling to get the required closure of the rubber seal, all that is required is to enable the creep feature of the Avanti - three simple steps and the closure is perfect. I thought, now that is something that is so simple and quick to perform - fantastic. All I can say is that since my visit, I have sold many Alutech Trend sectional doors along with the Avanti automation and it has definitely had an impact on my business. The installers are happy and with it being very price competitive, I am happy, but more importantly my customers have been really pleased with their new Alutech sectional doors and Avanti motors. It is now my one of my best sellers and It well deserves its position as a leading brand of sectional doors.
