Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk 28 THE door industry journal spring 2018 Industry News Hormann invited to Buckingham Palace following contributions to Alzheimer’s Society On the 12th of February, David O’Mara, marketing manager at Hörmann, had the privilege of representing the company at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the work of Alzheimer’s Society UK. Since 2014, the leading door manufacturer has supported and funded the work that the charity does by raising over £45,000. In recognition of this, David was invited to celebrate the power of music and meet the charity’s patron: Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra. Amongst some 350 guests, David spent the evening in the company of royalty, alongside Angela Rippon and Arlene Phillips. The concert showcased music from a variety of genres including performances from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by London Philharmonic Choir, and Alzheimer’s Society’s own Singing for the Brain group, The Wigmore Hall’s Singing with Friends choir. The whole night was an incredible display of the positive effects that music has on those struggling with dementia, and a demonstration of some of the services run by the charity. Commenting on the event, David said: “It was a very special experience, even just going through the front gate was exciting. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Choir were exceptional, and The Wigmore Hall’s Singing with Friends choir’s performance was very poignant. I was in awe of the singers and the sheer size and grandeur of the palace, it was all truly inspiring. I would like to say a big thank you from myself and everyone at Hörmann for the invitation, we are extremely proud to be associated with Alzheimer’s Society UK, and this is something that all the attendees will remember for the rest of their lives.” Alzheimer’s Society UK is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity for anyone affected by any form of dementia across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
