West Mercia Sections has long been acknowledged as the leading manufacturer of industrial door lath and components since its founding over 50 years ago. At the core of their business lies broad and deep expertise in roll forming technology, with a wealth of experience and a strong history of cold roll steel, they are regarded as the UK’s largest manufacturer of roller shutter door lath and components. Following the immediate and profound effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on global markets, the industrial door market has seen remarkable resilience and subsequent improvement in door and security demand. The pandemic saw the steel industry’s most volatile period for several years, with many UK companies demonstrating nervous caution in the face of this uncertainty. However, back in March 2020, WMS made the commercial decision to remain open during the pandemic to support its loyal customer base, which paid off as new customers came on board and sales figures grew. Economic conditions and C19 guidelines set out by the government put huge pressure on supply chains and logistics, seeing steel prices soar by as much as 80% during this period. The industrial door market has shown no signs of slowing down and following the successful launch of their 95mm foamfilled lath back in 2016, West Mercia has gone from strength to strength during this period seeing sales increase year on year. Recognising that added infrastructure was required to support the steady growth, they quickly commissioned the construction of a brand new 8,500sq.ft. facility at their HQ just outside Birmingham. Alongside this are the near installation of a second 95mm foam-filled lath line and Angle line, rolling up to 175mm legs at 5.0mm thick. The implementation of new machinery and bigger premises will bring the lead times down on all products to help facilitate the urgent demands of the industry. Furthermore, West Mercia Sections are delighted to announce they are now ISO14001 and ISO45001 accredited which hands them their Environmental Management and Health and Safety system standard, on top of their ISO9001 accreditation. Also being BS EN 1090 compliant ensures they comply with mandatory UKCA or CE Marking and their Factory Controlled Process (FCP). “Having these standards gives our customers the reassurance that our goal is to achieve excellence in all aspects of what we do”.
