Door Industry Journal - Spring 2023

OPEN DOORS Another year rattles by ……… As I write this article, we are finishing another successful trading year. But, what does success mean for a not-for-profit business like dhf as we don’t pay dividends and all money earned goes back into the organisation? Certainly, in order to maintain financial stability, we normally aim to break even or make a small surplus each year, but that is not really how we at dhf measure success. It is measured more by how good we have been in meeting the requirements of our 500 plus members. Recently, we completed a 5-Year Strategy and Business Plan. As you can imagine, it was quite detailed but I would just like to share with you one area which is the VISION: • To make the UK and Ireland built environment a safer and more secure place • Thereby providing market opportunities and commercial advantage for our members So, against our Vision, how do we judge whether dhf has had a successful year and met members’ requirements? Well, listed below are a few of dhf’s achievements for the year 2022/23: • Over 5000 queries handled by our technical team • 100 meetings attended on behalf of members • 22 webinars reaching 523 members • 933 people trained, making nearly 5000 since training was introduced in 2013 • 37 press releases That’s how we measure success at dhf. Can we do better? Of course we can …… watch this space!
