Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk IDA EXPO 2012 WRAP-UP New products were the hot topic at May’s International Door Association Expo in Las Vegas. The two-day event at the Las Vegas Convention Center drew a good crowd of dealers from around the country. Likewise, door and access-control manufacturers and suppliers came out in full force with huge booths, news doors, operators, apps and more, product demonstrations and a number of giveaways. • Genie Co. unveiled its new line of commercial operators at the show. • Representatives from LiftMaster, a division of The Chamberlain Group, were equally busy discussing its variety of door and access-control products with customers. • Raynor showcased a pink garage door in honor of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Southern Nevada, a breast cancer treatment and research nonprofit. • Susan G. Komen was the official charity of the IDA Expo. • Wood-like finishes was another trend on display at the expo with Overhead door manufacturer Northwest Door Inc. introducing its new wood grain powder-coat finishes. • Northwest Door Inc also spent time with dealers showing them the benefits of the company’s new tablet app. • Garaga also showcased its own app, GARAGANet, which enables dealers to show customers a selection of doors and calculates prices. • LiftMaster reps also talked about the company’s MyQ technology, which allows homeowners to operate their garage door opener, lights and even gates through smartphones or other Internet-enabled devices. Other companies showcasing new products - for both commercial and residential applications - included Goff’s, Wayne-Dalton, Hörmann, Rytec and Linear. For more information about these products along with photos, be sure to review the PDD products pages http://www.professionaldoordealer.com/topics/products.aspx over the next few weeks. By Jane Treiber, IDA Membership and Affiliate Relations Manager IDA has introduced a new e-publication to members, called On Track. On Track is designed to report on news about member benefits to different segments of our membership, such as owners/managers, installers/technicians, marketing/sales personnel, and product buyers. The newsletters are named: On Track Service/Install; On Track Operations; On Track Marketing/Sales, and On Track Purchasing Dept. Each newsletter will contain information about benefits or services IDA offers that is specific to each of the member types. The articles may link to new or previously published International Door & Operator Industry (ID&OI) magazine material, to IDA manuals or books, or to websites or other Internet resources. The first four issues debuted the last week of June. A blast email will be sent to all members to alert them when new issues are available. Members can select which newsletter they want to view. A firm owner may choose the Operations newsletter, but if he/she is also responsible for sales, marketing and purchasing for the firm, may select the Marketing/Sales newsletter and the Purchasing newsletter as well. Dealers are encouraged to distribute the newsletters to all pertinent company personnel. On Track is different from the IDA News e-publication in that the IDA News is designed to bring you information about what’s happening in the industry between issues of ID&OI. On Track will serve as a reminder of the resources available to members on a year-round basis. Member input is welcome, and contributed material will be accepted.
