Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk 14 THE door industry journal summer 2013 industry news NEW DHF TRAINING SCHEME TO DRIVE UP SAFETY LEVELS IN POWERED GATE SECTOR The drive to increase levels of safety of powered automatic gates has taken a major step forward with the introduction of a comprehensive training scheme by the Powered Gate Group of the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF). The training scheme will be compulsory for all DHF members who install powered gates. It is the latest initiative from the DHF Powered Gate Group. This group was set up within the DHF specifically to educate and promote the safe and responsible design, manufacture and installation of automatic gates. Its formation followed a number of fatal accidents involving powered automatic gates. Read the full article in the Powered Gates section on page 66 DOORS OPEN AT ASFORDBY DOORS The garage and industrial door specialist, Asfordby Doors, invited the local public to join them for their Grand Open Day, on Saturday 6th April, to officially open their new showroom as part of the company’s re-launch. Asfordby Doors, based in East Goscote, specialises in the supply, installation, repair and maintenance of garage doors, commercial security and industrial door systems. Following the move to a new industrial unit, the company has recently rebranded, opened a new showroom and launched a new website www.asfordbydoors.co.uk. The event was therefore intended to officially mark the re-launch and increase awareness of the company’s new location and services. In support of the local business, The Mayor of Melton, Councillor John Illingworth, cut the ribbon and formally opened the event. Mr Illingworth said “It’s a pleasure to see a local business growing and it’s clear to see you have a great bunch of people here. I’m very pleased to support you and wish you all the best for the future.” As well as aiming to increase awareness of the company, the family run business also wished to raise money for Cancer Research UK, in memory of Alec Murphy who founded Asfordby Doors in 1990. Various family friendly activities were enjoyed, including a bouncy castle, tombola, face painting, football target goal and BBQ. In addition, all customers could enter a Free Prize Draw for a chance to win a brand new garage door including fitting, worth up to the value of £1200 (full terms and conditions can be found at www.asfordbydoors.co.uk) . The winner of the draw was later announced on the company’s website. Paul Murphy, Managing Director of Asfordby Doors commented, “We were delighted with the turn out and are very grateful for the Mayor’s support.
