Yorkshire-based garage door manufacturer AlluGuard recently graced the hallowed turf of Bramall Lane - home of Sheffield United F.C. - in a charity football match that raised a four-figure sum for a very good cause. A team of AlluGuard’s finest footballing talent - consisting of employees as well as family members and customers - strapped on their shinpads and boots to line up against the formidable forces of an Anglian Home Improvements eleven. An epic struggle ensued over ninety action packed minutes, as AlluGuard Managing Director Gary Brooks explains: “It was certainly a rollercoaster of a game - Anglian Home Improvements took us by surprise in the first half and ran through our defence to chalk up a cricket score! A spirited half-time talk by my fellow MD Darren Baker, which was strangely reminiscent of Ricky Tomlinson in his role as Mike Bassett England Manager, ensured we came out fighting in the second but Anglian still ended up as deserving winners. It was all good fun and the whole day was a huge success. The game was attended by the family and friends of the players, who enjoyed the use of the Directors Box and all the other tremendous facilities on offer at Bramall Lane. Most importantly, it was all in aid of a very good cause, with charity being the biggest winner on the day. We now plan to hold a charity football match each year at this fantastic stadium.” The match raised a grand total of £1250 for the Sheffield United F.C. Community Foundation - a charity that works in the areas of sport participation, education, health and social inclusion. Its key aim is to build links between the football club and the surrounding community using the appeal of football and sport in general to encourage, motivate and inspire individuals, regardless of background, to achieve their potential. Its programmes include running football camps for youngsters across Sheffield and organising events such as the recent Sheffield World Cup, which saw people aged 17 and younger from all around the city compete in a fun, safe environment to win a special Sheffield version of the World Cup trophy. AlluGuard’s involvement with the Foundation is part of the company’s determination to be at the heart of the Yorkshire community and do all it can to help local charities and good causes. Past fundraising initiatives have seen Gary Brooks and Darren Baker take part in a Remand and Release event, which saw them join a host of other prominent figures from the Yorkshire business community in being arrested, charged and locked up in prison with other offenders, all in the name of charity. Darren is also a patron of the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and organises the annual Weston Park Charity Ball, which has raised more than £300,000 over the past few years. “At AlluGuard we have a mission to ensure that we are not just about making a profit. That means not only doing all we can to look after our customers and employees, but also being an integral and important part of the local community and supporting those that need it most in any way we can,” says Gary Brooks. “The opportunity to link up with Sheffield United through their Foundation was too good to miss and allowed us to have a lot of fun while raising a lot of money for charity at the same time. The work the Foundation is doing is absolutely fantastic and everyone at AlluGuard is really proud to have been involved.” To find out more about Alluguard garage doors call 0845 3665831 or email info@alluguard.co.uk www.alluguard.co.uk Image copyright Mark Hawksworth used under Creative Commons licence.
