Mike Gillespie, their managing director and inventor of the SDGi bracket picks up the story... Gingers Spark were approached by Vindex Systems Ltd as they had heard about our adjustable mag lock bracket and wanted to know if we could come up with a solution to make the installing of the Vortex 2400 electro mechanical lock far simpler for them. They had two sites that needed addressing for their midlands based Aerospace client, whose demands were naturally and obviously very high. The Vortex is a fantastic lock, very slim and has an extremely high holding force for its size, however, there is a swivelling knuckle on the armature that has to locate in a hole in the magnet which then clasps around the knuckle, which is where the Vortex achieves a lot of its strength, so as you can imagine it is critical that the positioning of the lock and armature is correct. By using standard Z & L bracket arrangements it is very difficult to achieve this level of accuracy as they only provide a rigid fixing point. This situation is compounded further as doors move or drop slightly and larger doors come in at different angles and this makes the engineers job of ensuring that the lock, pin and armature align correctly every time, extremely difficult and time consuming. Gingers Spark adapted their SDGi bracket to suit this lock with one for flush thermally broken doors and one for standard rebated pivot doors, but still retaining the brackets infinite adjustment features which allow the magnet to be positioned backwards, forwards and angled so that it meets the armature flush every time. The sliding plate is then secured so that the magnet is, geometrically, in the correct position to engage with the armature and knuckle when the door closes. The result was that the Vindex engineers were able to install the locks in a fraction of the time it normally takes and they did not have the burden of re-attending site to realign the locks because they had fallen out of alignment. This saved a huge amount of man hours both during the installation and not having to make return visits, the client is delighted as the doors locate and lock every time so their security is not compromised. Vindex also requested that the brackets were powder coated to match the door and frames so that they then blended unobtrusively and aesthetically with their environment, instead of being the standard silver anodised finish brackets generally are. Gingers Spark now look forward to a long working relationship with Vindex Systems, a highly regarded company in their field in addition to others in similar markets.
