Door Industry Journal - Summer 2015
Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk THE door industry journal summer 2015 MUL- T -PLEXED UNDERSTAND THE END-USER The Smart Home is changing the landscape for locksmiths. As the end-user has grown accustomed to sophisticated and convenient forms of technology, it’s time for the industry to embrace change and understand new customer requirements, says Kevin Menzies, Sales Manager at Mul-T-Lock. It is suggested that 84 per cent of people would invest in smart home technology, with home security being one of the priorities. Of course, the commercial and public sector will endeavor to embrace smart security a lot sooner than residential properties. With sophisticated smart products now on the market, like ENTR, Traka21 and the SMARTair range, Mul-T-Lock’s dealers have already fitted such solutions across hotels, hospitals and schools up and down the UK. An Education 2015 is all about education. It’s an education for us to understand the marketplace in order to deliver the best products, and it’s an education for locksmiths to understand said products and recognise opportunities. Mul-T-Lock is constantly working to upgrade its support for the locksmith; providing them with the tools and knowledge to communicate effectively about the benefits of smart doors. Despite over two thirds of people wanting to invest in smart technology, there seems to be a lack of advice or genuine information out there. Mul-T-Lock strives to provide the locksmiths with an easy to install solution that instantly transforms any door into a smart one – it’s about putting the end-user at ease and selecting the solution that will accommodate their lifestyle. Digital Embrace The industry has to embrace technology and be excited about the evolving demands of the end-user. We have long past the dawn of digital and as an industry; you could argue that we’re all a little behind? But 2015 must be about driving forward digital locking solutions; in light of the fast-paced world we now live in, it won’t be long until we’re faced with something brand new. The new lock is based on the company’s best selling cabinet lock, but with a much smaller footprint of just 30 by 90mm. “We’ve primarily designed NANO90 to replace locks, keys and basic mechanical locks supplied with many items of office furniture, such as desk drawers and filing cabinets,” explains Grant Macdonald, managing director of Codelocks. “However, due to its compact size, it’s also ideal for smaller lockers, mail boxes, courier drop boxes and medical cabinets.” “It’s also our first product that can be either flush or surface mounted,” continues Grant. “The increase in popularity of working practices such as hot desking, has resulted in a need for more convenient and secure locking solutions in the office environment. The fact that this lock can sit flush to the surface of a desk or cabinet draw makes it much harder for someone to break the lock off completely, providing the office worker with somewhere safe to secure belongings while at lunch or in meetings. A flush-fitted NANO90 has a smart, sleek look too.” The NANO90 provides an almost ‘fit and forget’ solution – performing up to 100,000 operations from just one coin-cell battery. The product is available to order in silver grey as standard, and is also available in black and white. It is priced at £32. For more information visit the product page on the Codelocks website or call 01635 239645.
