Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk doorsets 91 THE door industry journal summer 2015 So what are the benefits of CE marked doorsets? • The CE mark gives peace of mind to architects, specifiers and contractors/developers • The CE mark gives a presumption of conformity with health and safety legislation, simplifying risk assessments • Less chance of contractors being prosecuted under fire safety legislation if they can present CE documentation as it shows ‘due diligence’ • Quality and compatibility of all components are controlled by the manufacturer, so levers will work with latches, for example. • Single source means one line of responsibility/accountability so if anything goes wrong only one place to come. • All components arrive when you need them, reduces storage on site therefore less risk of damage or pilferage • One source for technical back-up • More accurate, speedy and precise installation on site • Reduces on-site health and safety issues • Fewer purchasing transactions result in supply chain economies • Factory preparation is “greener” than on-site preparation, less power used and less waste to dispose of SUMMARY There has been much debate over the last few years concerning the timescales of the introduction of CE marking for doorsets. At long last, we now know the timescales and we must ensure that all companies involved in the supply or installation of doorsets understand the implications. The DHF has produced a RIBA CPD entitled: 2013 – the impact of CE marking on timber & metal doorsets which is presented to architects and specifiers throughout the UK.
