ASSA ABLOY Security Doors’ BIM offering contains 72 door objects that can be used in standard applications such as corridors, toilets, offices and fire exits. A data centre for a well-known technology company, has recently been supplied with a range of doorsets, which have BIM objects attached, the BIM objects will aid maintenance activities in order to make whole life asset management possible. Brian Sofley, Managing Director at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said: “The successful delivery of the Government Construction Strategy (GCS) Level 2 BIM is creating the pathway to “Digital Built Britain” and the promise of BIM Level 3 in the future. “As the journey towards the digitalisation of the built environment progresses, we believe that as an early adopter of BIM in our industry, we are in a prime position to assist specifiers and contractors in using BIM as it was intended, to enable first time fit.” Doors only form a small part of buildings and are often considered at a later stage of the build. However, any change in dimension or material to these types of products could have a significant impact on other structural elements of the build. The creation of a central model under BIM, which each discipline involved in a buildings’ design and construction has access to and can update, is crucial for specifiers of security doors. www.assaabloy.co.uk CAPITAL GARAGE DOORS SPREAD THE ALUTECH WORD A rare sunny day allowed Capital Garage doors to hold an open day at their head office to demonstrate the Alutech Trend Sectional Garage door. Capital have recently been appointed as the Southern Distributor for the Alutech product range, with the intention of offering it as an alternative to their existing product range. Ashley Wright, Director of Capital commented: “It’s important for us to have a range of sectional door products to offer our trade clients, and the Alutech product really hits the mark. The quality is as good as others on the market and the price is really attractive. With good lead times on all products, especially the made to measure and coloured doors, it allows us to give clients what they need”. During the day, several installers installed an Alutech door, and commented on how easy the process was, especially that the bottom rubber comes pre-fitted in the panel, and how easy the new Torsion spring is to install – truly a one man job. Alutech are keen to listen to customer feedback, and have especially made note of the positive comments regarding offering a smooth textured finish on all ribbed doors for the same price as the standard textured finish, and that the L rib or flat panel is the same price as an ‘M’ ribbed panel. A number of JD UK Ltd (Alutech) staff were on hand during the day, helping to make some price comparisons on live projects, on one for a developer a large double door, smooth, L rib panel, saved over £400 – order taken! Over 30 people attended the day, enjoying the sunshine and the great BBQ laid on by Capital.
