NEW PRESIDENTIAL TEAM GET STRAIGHT TO WORK AT THE GAI David Stacey has been appointed as the new president of the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI), with a new team of executive officers and a clear focus to “get straight to work”. David Stacey is product sales director for UK and Ireland at dormakaba. Originally trained as a civil engineer, he has built his expertise in the sales and marketing of construction products for more than 20 years, working in the UK, Middle East, Australia and Hong Kong. Following his election as president of the Guild at its AGM earlier this month, David praised his predecessor’s “boundless energy, enthusiasm and leadership” . Maria Powell, managing director of Lorient Ltd, also received the past president’s medal. David said: “It’s a huge honour to be chosen to lead such a prestigious organisation in the architectural ironmongery industry. The Guild has been at the forefront of my career and the success of many door hardware businesses for many years. My immediate tasks are right up front and staring me straight in the face as I enter my term as president for the next two years. We must recruit the right team to support the excellent head office team of Douglas Masterson, Rachel Tipton and Davina King. We will be recruiting a new director to lead the Guild, a new marketing manager and a new membership officer. We must also finish what we’ve started on education, continuing to invest in the GAI’s online Education Hub which has already revolutionised the GAI’s highly respected learning programme and we must continue to support and develop the internationalisation of the Guild and our growing membership overseas, particularly in the face of an increasingly globalised construction regulations environment.” The president is also part of the ‘One Future Vision’ group, led by past president Maria Powell which is working towards a more unified, professional body to create the strongest possible future for both the Guild, which represents the interest of architectural ironmongery businesses, and its sister organisation, the Institute of Architectural Ironmongers (IAI), which represents the individuals in the industry and promotes ongoing professional development to door hardware specialists. In addition to confirming David Stacey as the new president, the AGM ratified the appointment of Julian Newman of Oxford Ironmongery Ltd as the new vice president, and Mario Del-Signore of CESuk as treasurer. The GAI is the only trade body in the UK that represents the interests of the whole architectural ironmongery industry - architectural ironmongers, wholesalers and manufacturers. Its reputation is built on three key areas: education, technical support and community. The GAI’s qualifications, education and CPD programmes are widely respected in the UK and overseas, including the GCC and Hong Kong. Its technical information service is the only specialist service of its kind, providing GAI members with comprehensive advice on issues relating to the legislation, regulations and standards governing the use of architectural ironmongery and related hardware. www.gai.org.uk
