The black-tie event took place at the Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, in June, where a range of architectural achievements were showcased Andy Howland, sales and marketing director for GEZE UK, presented the award to the winner of the category for offices, community and public facilities. It was won by the Eastwood Health and Care Centre, Glasgow, a healthcare hub designed by Hoskins Architects. The centre serves a large area, bringing together NHS and council services with four GP practices. It was noted how the brick-clad exterior of the building, softened by timber accents, draws visitors into the welcoming atrium. Andy Howland said: “It is always a delight to attend the RIAS Awards. It is a prestigious event which truly demonstrates diverse and creative application of architecture in a variety of different environs accommodating very different purposes.” The judging panel consisted of Ole Wiig FRIAS, Lorraine Landels Hon FRIAS, Stuart McKnight RIAS RIBA (representing the Royal Institute of British Architects) and Karen Anderson FRIAS (Timber Award). Stewart Henderson, President of the RIAS, commented: “The quality of contemporary Scottish architecture is well worthy of celebration. These awards demonstrate that buildings of all scales and throughout the country are exemplary in their design, execution and in what they deliver for their clients, users and communities.” Altogether, twelve winners were announced - chosen from a range of eclectic projects that included the City of Glasgow College, the Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries and Rockvilla, home to the National Theatre of Scotland.
