108 THE door industry journal summer 2018 Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk Fire & Security Firedoors launches ground-breaking Smart Fire Doors at Firex 2018 An exciting collaboration between two UK fire safety specialist businesses has resulted in the development of the world’s first smart fire door, a cost effective and unique product that aims to make best-practice easier to attain. Fire door manufacturer, Firedoors, has been working with Drax Technology, which specialises in alarm management solutions, for the past 18 months to develop an integrated system that combines the expertise of both organisations to deliver a solution that will improve fire door safety and compliance in any situation. The new Smart Fire Door offers multiple benefits: promising to improve safety whilst simplifying maintenance and record keeping for facilities managers and those responsible for fire safety and security in a wide range of buildings from multi-occupancy residential to retail, leisure and public-sector locations such as hospitals, schools and prisons. Each door manufactured by UK Firedoors will be fitted with a unique QR code that stores all the information about the specification and history of the door. By using the specially developed software clients will be able to manage all aspects of maintenance, replacement and compliance. The unique code will enable the user to accurately record and monitor wear and tear and replace any parts or units accurately whenever necessary.
