Door Industry Journal - Summer 2018
40 THE door industry journal summer 2018 Domestic Garage Doors Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk The Custom^ Is King The easiest kind of sale is the sale where you give the customer exactly what they want… Not always the easiest of things to do when it comes to garage doors. “Doors come in these styles…” “… take it or leave it!” Woodrite is different. Working with timber means they can accommodate the ideas of a customer in a bespoke design. It’s also about attitude – Woodrite is one of those companies that will go the extra mile. It’s all too common these days to have to deal with suppliers that say no to anything that’s not standard – it’s just too much trouble. At Woodrite it is second nature to take customer requests in their stride. Sharon Cleaver, Woodrite’s Sales Director, commented “We regularly receive request for variations to a design; add a rail here, remove a rail there, increase the size of the windows or match to a special finish and so on. All in a day’s work for us! We also work with customers to make doors that are completely bespoke. We share our woodwork and garage door expertise to guide the design process to a successful conclusion and a happy customer”. A few examples… Here’s a rather striking custom built double door supplied to Ace Garage Doors of Macclesfield. Based very loosely on a Buckingham Wendover style, the door design was bespoke to the customers’ requirements. The 5m x 2.1m door was fully finished in Light Oak and, at the request of the customer, the boards and joins across the face of the door were selected at random to create a pleasingly contemporary effect. The black opaque polycarbonate windows had frames painted in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey to match the house windows. To complete the job, the door was fitted to a matching softwood Cedar clad frame. Custom colours are becoming commonplace and this sleek Buckingham Woburn design, fully finished in Farrow & Ball “Hardwick White 5”, is a great example. The door also has a softwood cedar clad frame and architrave painted to finish the job off perfectly. Thanks to Ace Garage doors for the image. A subtler example is this custom-built Buckingham Gawcott door, supplied to Doorfit in Birmingham, built in Cedar, finished in Light Oak and fitted to a softwood frame. The custom element is the stretched header, creating the gentle sweeping detail. How many up and over doors do you see in an arched opening? This may be the only one! The custom Buckingham Taplow design door and frame was built to perfectly follow the brickwork arch, making this unique door appear effortless! One of the more unusual requests supplied to NDC Garage Doors of Lightwater. “We love a challenge, and some of these doors have certainly been a learning opportunity for all. Outside of all this clever stuff I also want our customers and the wider market to know that we also do standard designs in standard sizes, all made with the same Woodrite attention to detail and at great value pricing to boot!” Added Sharon.
