When should we re-open? How do we re-open in a safe manner? What shape will our industry be in? How will it affect our incredibly hard-working customers? “During April, these questions ran through my mind every day,” explains JD UK General Manager, Paul Hargreaves. “But when some relaxations of the lockdown were taking effect, it was a comment from one of our South Wales customers that clarified the decision. They said, ‘I’ve made no money in the last 5 weeks, if you can deliver to us you will help us survive.’ At this point the decision to return in a small and Covid safe, sensible manner was made. “The balance between safety being of paramount importance whilst helping our industry to survive was struck on that day and I thank all the members of both JD UK and Alutech for their quick reactions and attention to detail. A particular huge thank you to my colleague, Rob Shaw, in writing up our Covid practices so quickly and comprehensively. To this day they have kept us all confident we are working in a safe environment. “I must admit, facing these challenges and making decisions such as this during these times has caused many late nights and I am sure everyone in our industry has faced the same. Were they the right decisions? We can never be 100% sure but I certainly think so. The balance of industry survival and safety cannot be taken lightly but one we have all had to face and overcome. JDUK Ltd and Alutech Systems, moved pretty quickly adopting the “tech of the moment” during the Covid lockdown and social distancing period. This quick adoption of technology allowed the company to hold remote online fabrication training sessions for Roller Garage Doors and Bi-fold doors with new customers joining the “family”, so to speak. Holding these sessions have also saved on everyone’s time, as customers aren’t having to take time out of their busy schedules to drive to our premises for training.
