When an adjoined unit fell vacant at their production plant in Castle Vale, Birmingham, Wessex took the opportunity to expand, doubling the factory space to 20,000 sq.ft. The expansion began earlier this year and has allowed Wessex to ensure its extensive door mould ‘library’ can be managed efficiently and created the space to ramp up its composite door production capacity. “Given the events that followed our expansion, we’ve fared far better than we could possibly have hoped” commented Lee Moon, head of the Castle Doors Group and Wessex. “We’ve seen a sustained increase in orders and also had the time to refine the efficiency of our production processes. Our objective is to bring Composite garage doors to the market at prices comparable to steel doors, but with the huge performance benefits the Composite brings when compared to steel” added Lee. No visible steel chassis No one wants to sell the brilliant low-maintenance properties of Composite and then have to explain away a thick steel chassis on view all around the front face of the door… The entire Wessex range of doors has only edge-to- edge composite on the weather side of the door. Three grades of door are available: 3 & 4 Crown ranges Three and Four Crown up and over and side hinged doors are tailored to the made-to-measure home improvement market with extensive design choices, custom single and double door sizes and a wide range of solid colours and woodtones in high gloss and woodgrain surface textures. Three Crown doors have a ‘matted-in’ steel chassis that provide excellent rigidity and Four Crown doors have an extra ‘flow-coat’ of composite over the matting to give the doors even greater rigidity and a smooth, bright white finish to the rear of each design. Expanded Two Crown range at a remarkable price-point to compete with steel The Two Crown range of doors is geared to meet the demand for single doors in standard sizes – 7’0”, 7’6” and 8’0” wide and 6’6” and 7’0” high.
