Door Industry Journal - Summer 2021
Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk 34 THE door industry journal summer 2021 Industry News IN2 Access: Updated Components Bring Additional Traffic Flow Options New control boards have joined the IN2 portfolio, enabling new ways to control traffic lights beyond simple transmitters/receivers. Demand for pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow solutions continues to be strong as businesses emerge from lockdown, but with the need for continued social distancing. Derek Foreman, Director of Sales & Marketing for Shropshire-based IN2 Access & Control, says customer requests have resulted in additional products and solutions being added to IN2 Access’ ever-expanding range of available traffic systems. “We were starting to get enquiries from customers who liked the plug and play systems already, but due to unique requirements, needed additional functionality and logic to make the traffic solutions work for them,” Derek said. Option 1: ‘2-way 2-Lens Control’ As the name suggests, this control board works with any two 2-colour traffic lights available on the website. “This is ideal for traffic management situations at crossroads or where driveways are narrow and require alternate transit, for example in residential garages or car parks,” says Derek. Two configurable inputs allow for presence detection. Timers allow adjustment of waiting, switching, and transit times offering easily adjustable settings to individual requirements. Standard cycle mode can also be selected should sensing not be required. (see figure 1) This example took place in a quarry. The customer had two single land entrance/exit points obscured by the quarry’s odd layout. Red/green traffic lights at each entry point were normally red, with photocells at each side. When triggered, the photocells turn the traffic light green for a set period while the opposite light remains red. Once the timer ends, both lights go back to red. Option 2: ‘2-way 3-Lens Control’ This board works similarly to the previous one but with the ability to select between controlling either two 2-colour or two 3-colour traffic lights. Additional features include a digital display for setup, increased timings and functionality, as well as a third input to force lights into one of three operations (selectable). Derek explains how “we had a customer enquire about having a two-directional single lane traffic requirement with the ability to switch both sets of lights to red to allow the exit of emergency vehicles.” This was easily achieved by having the third input. Option 3: ‘3-way 2-Lens Control’ This system allows for control of three-way traffic (i.e. three 2-colour traffic lights). (4 & 5 ways also available on request) As well as entry point detection inputs, these systems also have outbound traffic sensors. The status of lights can be set all red until the entry sensor is activated or you can alternatively have one light on green until other sensors are triggered.
