Leading British companies Garador and Doorfit have been working together for over 60 years to ensure they offer the very best garage doors at competitive prices, along with firstclass service and a product that can be fitted quickly and easily. Here we look at the story of a garage door from the initial order to delivery Whether ordering a single garage door, or multiple units for development, the process doesn’t have to be difficult. It can all start with a visit to Doorfit’s extensive showroom in Birmingham. Doorfit was founded in 1953 and has had a long partnership with Garador, sharing values of competitive pricing, highest quality products and attentive service. When a customer visits the Doorfit showroom, they can go through all of the Garador garage doors on display and look at colour options too. Once a choice has been made, a Doorfit surveyor will then visit the property to check all the details and take measurements and answer any final queries before a final summary and quotation is submitted. Once this has been accepted, Doorfit passes the details onto the manufacturer, Garador. Garador, based in Somerset, is recognised as a leading garage door manufacturer and has been making garage doors for over 70 years. Continued investment in new production technology and machinery over the last few years has ensured that Garador’s Yeovil plant is still one of the most modern garage door manufacturing facilities in Europe. The making of a garage door starts with the arrival of huge rolls of galvanized steel and other components. Where appropriate, Garador has introduced just-in-time supply chains to help streamline the manufacturing process and reduce storage costs. All aspects of incoming product orders and material supplies are checked and approved, ready to be made into a new door. The sheets of metal go through various processes and each door is tracked and identified using a computer-based production system. Sheets of steel are cut and formed into the various shapes need to build the chassis and fascia of the garage door, they are then spot welded together so there isn’t a need for any rivets. At various key stages throughout the manufacturing, detailed checks are made to ensure all quality standards are being met. Once the door panel is complete, it then enters the paint spraying booths. These gigantic box-like areas were recently upgraded to ensure minimum paint waste while producing a deep durable finish in a huge range of colours. The doors are then carefully dried and then transported to the finishing area where lifting gear, handles and other components are fitted to complete the door. Making a garage door is a hugely complex process involving large programmable automated machines and knowledgeable technicians at Garador. Garador has invested heavily in new production machinery in recent years to significantly improve the speed, reliability and efficiency of its production process. Once the door is complete and has passed final quality control, then it is moved to the special wrapping and loading area. Timing is key in all jobs and Doorfit keeps check of every order, site requirement and delivery time, ensuring the entire process is transparent and also clear for the customer. Once the door has passed its final quality checks, it is ready to go out.
