As a family-owned and run business, Hörmann has always taken its social and environmental responsibility seriously. The objective of successive generations of the family has been to hand over an ethically sound business that provides a green platform in sustainable manufacturing for future generations to come. Placing itself at the forefront of climate protection for many years, Hörmann has introduced sustainable strategies and manufacturing processes throughout its global operation. Working to a three-step climate protection strategy – CO2 calculation, reduction and compensation, tangible results have now been achieved resulting in the Carbon Neutral status for their domestic doors being achieved. Today the Group uses green electricity to cover 100% of the electricity requirements at all their European production sites. Together with intelligent and certified energy management systems, the saving and upcycling of packaging, the recycling of all reusable materials, and the use of recycled paper, more than 75,000 tons of CO2 are saved each year. In addition, any remaining emissions generated are offset by promoting renewable energy, forest protection and reforestation projects in cooperation with ClimatePartner. Another major development for the Hörmann Group and a first for any garage door manufacturer is the installation of a trial Hydrogen Power Plant at the company’s sectional door manufacturing plant in Ichtershausen, Germany. If successful, the trial will be upscaled and will lead to similar installations across other European plants. Commenting on the announcement, Wolfgang Gorner Managing Director at Hörmann UK said: “The Hörmann Group are, rightly so, concerned about the environmental impact of their operations throughout the world. They continue to illustrate a clear willingness to take the issue seriously and continue to invest for long-term gains. Every single operation within the Group plays its part by taking steps to ensure that we all continue to reduce our carbon footprint. There is no doubt that customers are interested in CO2-neutral products and as a company with a trusted brand we aim to make a real difference by consistently supplying great products, whilst ensuring that our environmental footprint is light.” For further information on Hörmann UK visit Hörmann Innovations 2023 or call 01530 516868 BIG Things are Happening at SWS UK There has been a rumble of activity at SWS UK following a major investment in its machinery. It was all hands on deck as the team welcomed a substantial delivery to their Lancaster-based factory and head office. Measuring 40 metres in length and weighing a whopping 25 tonnes, specialist lifting equipment was required, including a heavyduty crane which was used to carefully transfer the new machinery from the delivery lorry to its new home in SWS UK’s state-ofthe-art factory. Providing technical support during the installation was Jean Germanaz from SWS UK’s sister company Profalux. Jean used his expertise to coordinate the delivery onto the site, before assisting with the mammoth task of unpacking and the complicated set-up of the machine. All of which went without a hitch. Commercial Director Kevin Lindeque said: “It’s been an exciting time for us at SWS UK. Our new equipment is the biggest, single investment we’ve ever made and we’re confident that it will revolutionise the production of our products.” So, what is this mystery new machinery? SWS UK informs us that all will be revealed soon… Jean Germanaz Crane Delivery into the factory
