Door Industry Journal - Winter 2013

Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk 64 THE door industry journal winter 2013 powered gates To automate and improve sales productivity and follow up. In direct response to the issues of safety and tracking of gate installations raised at the second Door & Hardware Federation Gate Safety Conference, Green Gate Access Systems (www.greengateaccess.co.uk) has launched a new customer data and follow up system called ‘GateTracker’. ‘GateTracker’ is unique because it has been developed specifically for the gate and barrier installation industry to help gate installers become more productive as, in addition to being a CRM system, it also generates the risk assessment, CE declaration and handover pack required to make installations compliant with UK machinery directives and EN regulations. The Door & Hardware Federation have worked tirelessly with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to understand the implication of the law around gate installations and the practicalities of implementing them in the real world and have recommended ‘GateTracker’ to their Powered Gate Group members. ‘GateTracker’ increases the effectiveness of sales personnel as it automatically chases quotes with personalised emails to customers and it sends reminders before the end of the warranty period. As Neil Sampson, owner of Green Gate Company puts it, “We really built this system for ourselves. Now that it has been field tested, the whole team - sales, back office and engineers are totally linked to the same system and it’s saving many hours a week in repetitive work and overlap. We’re finally all on the same page!” Neil added: “Our customers tell us they appreciate being kept up to date during and after the installation. The other installers using ‘Gate Tracker’ also love the system. With an unlimited user licence for each installation firm, it’s available to all gate installers to link up with their customers proactively. At £50 per month, there is no other CRM on the market that comes close for gate installers”. A diary system links installation, repair and service schedules to the ‘MapIt’ function allowing installers to plan their workload and emergencies by allocating work to specific engineers by time and location. Additionally, within 5 minutes, the health and safety pack generator tool can produce a full technical file for the installation within a compliant and professional 18-page document with the customers’ own gate images on the front cover as the finishing touch. When the job is complete, a copy is handed to the customer in the installer’s own branded format. It was intended to be a short-term solution but the gates were actually in place for seven years. When the time came for T G Lynes to change the layout of their site a revamp of the entry was called for. PSL was commissioned to install a new pair of swing gates set centrally in the approach and around 1500mm back from the existing gate line. In the past Lorries tended to clip the non-automated gate so PSL created a centralised opening together with side panels making a funnel effect. The existing access control methods have been retained and interfaced with the new system. After satisfactory testing, the Technical file was completed, the gates CE marked and paperwork issued to T G Lynes. Bob Pratt at T G Lynes told PSL: “It’s always good to use local companies and the fact that PSL is round the corner has been great especially when the old gates came to the end of their useful life and servicing and maintenance costs were increasing. But the reason we use PSL is more than the fact they are local: their service is great, they don’t drag the job out and they are friendly and professional to deal with. In fact we are on first name terms and have built a good relationship”. Technical details The new 2400mm high palisade gates suit an opening 4500mm wide and are hung on 200 x 200 support posts. Automation comprises FACC 400 hydraulic operators, resistive safety edges, photocell beams, inductive loop detectors and electric locks.
