Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk 62 THE door industry journal winter 2015 garage doors ON A RISING TREND! Sectional door sales doubled overnight – Unbelievable? Alutech launched their much anticipated ‘Trend’ sectional door in July after almost 2 years development. In the same month – Alutech’s distributor JD UK Ltd. recorded literally double the volume of doors normally sold! - Coincidence? “We were curious to find out why this occurred, are they giving them away to gain sales? Or does the product sell itself?” said Steve Hudson, managing director of JD (UK) Ltd. To find out, Steve decided to ask some customers, Lee from LT Garage doors commented: “The package with the operators included as standard is such good value, that I offer the clients the Alutech product and a well-known competitor, they almost always go for the Alutech as it represents better value”. Brian from Ockbrook Garage doors said: “Some of the features really sell the door, especially the cover that protects the springs on the side sprung doors – it’s so simple, why has nobody else done this before. It not only makes the door safer but improves the look of the door from the inside which customers like! Andrew from ASS suggested that having doors made to measure in both width and height with no additional charge, would save him so much money and time through not having to install sub-frames and cladding, as not all UK garage openings are suitable for a standard size doors. Kevin from Concept agreed that the doors are much easier to install than Alutech’s previous model, and suggested that the double door with its ‘click-in’ torsion sprung system is now a 1 handed job rather than a 2 man job, saving a good 30 minutes on site over some other well-known brands in the market. “Combine that with the easy set up and programming of the Avanti operator, means I had time to fit an extra last minute job, which was extra profit for the day! “ CE marking With CE marking also being discussed at the JD UK launch and a hot topic of the moment, JD (UK) Ltd via Alutech and Avanti have all the necessary documentation to support the CE marking of the door and operator package. This documentation has been reviewed by an industry expert in the subject. To recap on some of the features of the Alutech ‘Trend’ door we have included below the ones that were most relevant to the attendees on the launch day. Painted door frames with a new fascia, no more cover profiles to fit on site Protective spring cover – supplied as standard for all side sprung doors – available up to 3500mm wide. The new ‘click’ system of installing torsion springs, allows for one handed installation. The bracket simply locates on the lugs, holding the pre- assembled spring assembly in place while the nuts are fastened. Time saving – 20-30 minutes on site! Deeper, multi-chamber bottom seal, improves sealing and insulation, which comes pre-fitted to the bottom panel. So are they giving them away then? Not really but at £400 for a 7’ x 7’ door including operator, it does represent exceedingly good value for money.
