Following a comprehensive supplier review Gilgen Door Systems was chosen to deliver a solution that provided controlled day / night access to the vehicle service area and subsequently installed four high security shutters and three high speed doors. Working with GRS architects, Gilgen completed a site survey to evaluate site safety, security and access requirements. The company then proposed a solution based on insulated LPS1175, SR2 rated security shutters in front of high speed curtain doors which it was decided gave the facility with the best combination of accessibility, environmental performance and security. The Rolegard SR2 shutters are certified to the latest LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board), issue 7, level 2 standard and also meet Police Preferred ‘Secured by Design’ standards. Tested against physical attack including prising, gouging, jacking, and drilling, Rolegard SR2 helps mitigate medium level security threats through hardened physical protection. An insulated version of the shutter was chosen for the garage to help reduce building heat loss and through its acoustic properties minimise noise pollution. The steel curtain profile incorporates a special foam-filled layer which contributes to a low U value of W/m 2 .K, an accurate measure of energy efficiency. Each shutter, the largest of which is 5m wide by 3.6m high, is driven by a powerful GFA 3-phase direct drive motor with push button activation and safety release which offers safe, reliable operation. Behind three of the security shutters, Gilgen installed Kwikroll KR630SE high speed curtain doors which act as an effective environmental barrier during the working day. Their high speed operation of up to 3m per second means they provide easy vehicle access whilst significantly reducing heat loss. Being designed to withstand external wind pressures they also reduce water ingress and dirt contamination inside the service area. Each high speed curtain is activated by motion sensors triggered by approaching vehicles whilst a large vision panel helps improve visibility for drivers entering or leaving the garage. Safety is further enhanced by the inclusion of an integral curtain light beam with stop and return function that continuously monitors the door area to prevent accidental contact as the door closes. Gilgen Door Systems is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of powered door systems including industrial doors, security doors and automatic pedestrian doors. Gilgen’s market leading range of high security shutters meets LPS1175, issue 7, level 2,3,4 and 5 standards and is suitable for a wide range of facilities such as commercial outlets, banks, museums and critical infrastructure that requires protection from potential security threats.
