Furthermore, with the increasing number of people embracing smart security systems to link their locks, alarms, smoke detectors and so on it is now possible to integrate CCTV as an extra precaution, whereby users can view a live feed from the cameras on a smartphone or tablet using an app. Outbuildings, gateways and garden - A report from the ONS2 revealed there were 730,000 thefts from gardens and outhouses between April 2015 and March 2016, equating to 2,000 each day. With that in mind, the same door, gate and window lock principles should apply when it comes to securing outbuildings, gateways and gardens. Most gateways are positioned at the side or back of a home, making an easy entrance for potential intruders if not secured properly. A sturdy gate bolt fitted with a weather proof padlock for instance is an ideal way to prevent easy access, but strong hinges are also required to ensure it can’t be easily broken down. It was crucial that the products could provide a discreet solution, that would not spoil intricate vinyl leaf designs on the bedroom doors, whilst also ensuring compliance with both access and fire regulations. Designed by The Manser Practice and located within the Alton Towers resort, it is the first hotel designed exclusively for children and young families. Having opened in July 2017, the hotel allows its visitors to immerse themselves within a selection of children’s TV shows, with each room featuring its own individual kids zone. Having worked previously with dormkaba, G Johns & Sons specified ITS96 door closers for all 76 of the bedroom doors. The architect initially stipulated that overhead door closers were to be installed. However, it was decided that due to the nature of the fully screen-printed doors, complete with images of CBeebies characters, that it would be important to select more discreet door closers to ensure the design was not obstructed. The ITS96 from dormakaba uses a slender cam and roller design to allow it to be fully concealed within the door leaf. This design also provides low opening forces to ensure ease of operation and compliance with the access requirements stated in Approved Document M. In addition, the ITS96 features a cushioned stop position that protects the door leaf and frame in the event of slamming or violent use - this position can be adjusted to an opening angle between 80° and 120°. For the cross-corridor fire doors in the bedroom hallways and the doors leading from the staircase to each floor, the ITS96 EMF was specified. Ideal for high traffic areas, the door closer was installed specifically to ensure that corridor noise would be kept to a minimum during the evening when residents are sleeping. It works by securing doors at an open position at all times, avoiding constant and unnecessary opening and closing. In the event of an emergency, or fault in the power supply, the unit will release and close the door – acting as a standard door closer until the alarm or power is reset. Both the ITS96 and ITS96 EMF are third party tested to BS EN1155 and CERTIFIRE Approved, thus ensuring the door closers comply with both fire and access legislation.
