This new machine, the fifth state-of-the-art manufacturing tool within the company’s Rawtenstall factory, will add to the existing two single skin lath machines, a 100mm insulated (double-skin) machine and a 77mm roller. The 77mm machine was recently installed, and increased production and capabilities in time for the busy winter period. This addition contributes to RCS Doors’ ‘all under one roof’ mission. This mission aims to provide customers with products designed and crafted by RCS expert manufacturers in the company’s Rawtenstall facility. As a result, the company is a proud member of the ‘Made in Britain’ brand and outsourcing is kept to an absolute minimum. This latest installation is a key component of the manufacturing process and enables RCS Doors to manufacture even more products entirely in-house. The new foam-injected lath makes up a lighter door in comparison to the 100mm double-skin, polystyrene insert laths, which RCS already manufacture in-house. This allows for smaller motor and barrel sizes, bringing down door costs. This lath can be produced to length, in plastisol or galvanised steel. Managing Director Steven Kenny said: “The more work we can produce by ourselves in our own facility, and the less we are compelled to rely on third party suppliers, the more comfortable we feel.” “Repeat customers attribute to so much of our business and we believe this is due to our excellent quality control and lead times made possible by our ‘all under one roof’ mission - we therefore strive to maintain and further improve these critical aspects of our industry. There has been an increase in our sales of 77mm and 95mm foam-filled lath which has sparked our move into this new area. We know the market, and know it works well with our doors.” Both the 95mm and the 77mm state-of-the-art machines were custom-built in China to best suit space and needs. It required visits to and from China and likewise for a team from China to visit RCS in order to comply with RCS Doors’ specific needs. The logistics in transporting such a large piece of equipment thousands of miles to the RCS Doors manufacturing facility in Rawtenstall was time consuming; and building it up wasn’t your average Lego toy car build. Measuring in at 36m in length this brand-new state-of-the-art machine required yet another re-shuffle in the factory to avoid a tetris-style mishap. This new installation has been timed perfectly for winter, and RCS Doors are primed and ready for the expected sales increases at this time of year.
