Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk THE door industry journal winter 2020 Domestic Garage Doors 56 Wicket or Pass Door? The Choice is Yours… In a recent poll across JD (UK)’s social media platforms, the company asked its followers to settle a simple debate: pass door or wicket door? The results were in favour of the former (by over 70%). But what do you think? Luckily with the availability of both pass and wicket doors to complement your Alutech sectional garage door, you can offer a solution for all customer requirements. One of the main functions of both types of door is to allow quick and easy access to a garage without the need of opening the entire garage door. This is ideal for when a garage is used for something other than vehicle storage, such as, a workshop or extra living space and offers a number of other benefits on the overall condition of the garage and its user(s). Benefits The average lifetime of garage door springs is up to 15000 open/close cycles. This is the equivalent to 10 years of service, based on a 4 times daily open/close use. While this can be prolonged by using the garage door less, by using a wicket or pass door, the garage can be accessed quickly and efficiently without having to open the entire garage door. This will help increase the life of a garage door and maintain its condition. A wicket or pass door also provides a number of safety and security features, allowing access without opening the entire door and displaying the contents of the garage. For automated garage doors, in case of power failure, a wicket or pass door provides alternative access in and out of the garage. The additional door also allows children and vulnerable people safe access in and outside without the need of opening a heavy and potentially dangerous garage door. Easy Access with Pass Doors With four handle colour options (Traffic White, White Aluminium, Jet Black, Grey-Brown) and the option to colour match both the external and internal frame, our pass doors can be tailor-made with bespoke designs and styles to complement an existing Alutech garage door profile. Space-Saving Access with Wicket Doors A wicket door is integrated into the garage door sandwich panel. Unlike a pass door, which is separate from the garage door entirely. Hence, with a wicket door you will not need to build into an existing wall space to install the door. For more information on the range of pass doors, wicket doors and sectional garage doors please call 01924 472924, email sales@jdukltd.co.uk , or visit www.jdukltd.co.uk . A pass door (also known as a pedestrian door) is a separate single-door entrance to a garage. A wicket door is an integrated single-door entrance to a garage within the garage panel. Correction On page 42 of our Summer 2020 issue - www.dijonline.co.uk/summer2020/42/ - we published an article supplied by the Castle Doors Group regarding the doubling of production space for their Wessex range of garage doors. The headline read “Wessex Garage Doors Doubles Production Space ….” It should have read “Wessex Doors Doubles Production Space ….”. For the sake of clarity, Wessex Garage Doors from Banstead in Surrey, have not been acquired by the Castle Doors Group.
