It also helps students build essential 21st century skills. Claire Blakemore, Managing Director at Mul-T-Lock UK, looks at what this means for security on school sites, to protect pupils, staff, visitors and their ever increasingly valuable assets. In barely a decade, tablets, laptops and smart phones have been transformed from a speculative vision to an integral part of many people’s daily lives and learning objectives. Such investment in resource and extent to which they are readily available now in schools across the UK, makes education facilities much more of an appealing target for criminals. So what can be done? Proactively investing in relatively simple measures such as upgrading the lock cylinders, without the need to change the lock case or door furniture, will bring instant added protection. Mul-T-Lock’s MTL300 Break Secure® 3XP cylinder offers protection against cylinder manipulation attack. Our dedicated classroom cylinders, designed to prevent pupils from locking classroom doors from the inside to disrupt access, while still retaining the facility to allow teachers to enter rooms at all times. Incorporating such solutions provides the opportunity to introduce a master keying system. Mul-T-Lock master key systems are offered as patent protected, and new keys can only be supplied by authorised Mul-T-Lock high security centres upon proof of identity and authority. For schools, this prevents the casual copying of keys, and helps eliminate invisible passage throughout the facility. Rogue keys are possibly the biggest risk to safety as well as being a threat to the protection of valuable assets. Mul-T-Lock also works closely with schools to plan, scale and ensure new build, refurbishment or extension requirements are captured at the design stage; no matter how far ahead the development plans. By understanding the school security requirements as early as possible, Mul-T-Lock can introduce electromechanical lock solutions. Products such as Mul-T-Lock’s wireless SMARTair and eCliq solutions can upgrade mechanically locked doors to access control solutions. They offer effective and sophisticated security control for the most “at risk” areas. By taking this holistic style approach to addressing bespoke school security requirements, we can enable a safe and secure, yet pleasant learning environment for staff, pupils and visitors to maximise the benefits of use of technology in the classroom. A regular comment column brought to you by Claire Blakemore, Managing Director at Mul-T-Lock UK are important for companies to offer to their employees. We started by talking about why they wanted to participate in this course and the verdict was unanimous; to build confidence and develop personally. Overall, the feedback received from the course has been overwhelmingly positive, with 75% of attendees stating it exceeded expectations. When speaking to Rebecca Peilober, she stated, “the empowerment course has made me more confident in my work and everyday life and has given me the courage and skills to get what I want in life”. The experience gained from the course provides attendees with a vast range of tools that can help positively impact their approach to scenarios within and outside of a work environment. Many of the attendees explained one of the most significant issues they face personally is ‘imposter syndrome’, which can be described as persistent selfdoubt of your abilities and your merit within your position. Studies indicate that 90% of all women will have experienced this feeling within the workplace. However, feedback after the course highlighted that the majority of this self-doubt had been alleviated and replaced with optimism and self-assurance to carry out their role. Ellard’s parent company, Indutrade, follows the ethos of ‘people make the difference’ and therefore strives for all companies to create an environment that cultivates all employee’s skills and values. The empowerment course is one of many that help to make this happen. Out of all of the participants who took part in the course, 100% said that they would recommend it to a colleague. Ellard is proud to offer such a meaningful opportunity, which they will continue to do into the future. www.ellard.co.uk Have you liked our Facebook and Twitter pages yet?
